(Patriot.Buzz) – Signaling a rupture within the ranks of the Democratic Party, Democratic presidential hopeful Dean Phillips launched an ad slamming Joe Biden’s decision to change the traditional order of the primary elections.
Titled “The New Hampshire Way,” the ad accuses Biden of disregarding long-established custom by impacting New Hampshire’s longstanding status as the first-in-the-nation primary state, emphasizing New Hampshire’s historical role in shaping presidential races.
The advertisement features Phillips engaging with New Hampshire voters in traditional settings, such as diners and town squares, underscoring an alleged commitment to conventional campaigning methods. The ad also highlights Phillips’ policy agenda, focusing on left-wing issues like housing affordability, wage increases, healthcare reform, corporate taxation, and women’s reproductive rights.
In a disruptive move launched in October last year, Biden’s campaign chose not to file for his inclusion on the New Hampshire Democratic primary ballot. This decision aligns with Biden’s earlier request to the Democratic National Committee (DNC) to restructure the 2024 primary calendar.
His proposal, which the DNC approved in February this year, prioritizes states like South Carolina and Nevada early in the primary process, aiming to give Black and Hispanic voters more influence in selecting the Democratic nominee. This new arrangement displaces the traditional early primaries of predominantly white states like Iowa and New Hampshire.
The reaction in New Hampshire to this reshuffling has been one of discontent, with state officials and DNC members expressing grave concerns. Joanne Dowdell, a DNC rules committee member from New Hampshire, discussed the possibility of honoring state law while amplifying diverse voices in the primary process. Despite the reordering, New Hampshire has scheduled its primary for January 23, ahead of South Carolina’s primary on February 3.
Despite these changes, polls indicate Biden remains the frontrunner among Democratic candidates for the 2024 election. Some of Biden’s supporters have even suggested Democratic voters write-in his name on the ballot, given his decision not to participate in the New Hampshire primary formally.
Julie Chavez Rodriguez, the campaign manager for Biden for President, reinforced this stance in an October letter, explaining that Biden’s adherence to the DNC’s delegate selection rules requires his compliance with the revised primary schedule.
