(Patriot.Buzz) – Raising questions on the decision’s fairness, a federal judge has ordered former President Donald Trump’s prominent adviser Steve Bannon to surrender so he can begin a four-month jail sentence on July 1.
Watch the video below.
This decision comes because Bannon refused to testify before the investigative committee led by former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, which focused on the January 6th Capitol protest.
The committee has been sharply criticized for its partisan composition as only Pelosi selected its members in order to link Trump to the January 6, 2021, disturbances.
Bannon resisted testifying and cited Trump’s assertion of executive privilege, which the Democrats overseeing the probe rejected.
The court ultimately ruled that Bannon failed to demonstrate that Trump had indeed invoked such privilege.
Expressing defiance against the Democratic legal challenges, Bannon declared, “They’re not going to shut up Trump. They’re not going to shut up Navarro. They’re not going to shut up Bannon. And they’re certainly not going to shut up MAGA.”
U.S. District Judge Carl Nichols issued the ruling to jail Bannon by rescinding a prior order that had delayed his imprisonment.
Despite the ruling, Bannon still has the option to seek further review from a full appellate court or the Supreme Court.
“My stay of Mr. Bannon’s obligation to self-surrender is revoked,” stated Judge Nichols while acknowledging that the conditions that initially justified the stay no longer applied.
This order follows a contempt of Congress charge under the Democrat-led Congress. Meanwhile, Bannon continues to host his popular “War Room” podcast, which draws a large audience.
Similar to Bannon, Trump adviser Peter Navarro also started serving a four-month sentence for not complying with the committee’s demands.
Outside the courthouse, Bannon’s attorney David Schoen said that “when executive privilege has been invoked, you no longer have to comply with a subpoena.”
This legal interpretation was central to Bannon’s decision to defy the committee’s requests for documents and testimony. The committee ceased to exist after Republicans gained the majority in the House.
