The Democratic Party’s official X account faced criticism on Tuesday for posting an image intended to depict President Biden as “stylish.”
Attempting a nod to popular culture, the Party showcased a picture of Biden donning his signature aviator sunglasses in front of the White House.
The accompanying caption borrowed a quote from the 2004 teen comedy “Mean Girls,” starring Lindsay Lohan: “President @JoeBiden is not just any president, he’s a stylish president. #MeanGirlsDay.”
The significance of October 3rd in the movie “Mean Girls” arises when Lindsay Lohan’s character gushes after her crush queries about the day’s date, answering, “It’s October 3rd.”
The caption from the Biden post alluded to another famous line in the film, uttered by Amy Poehler’s character, wherein she boasts, “I’m not a typical mom, I’m a stylish mom.”
But not everyone was on board with the Party’s approach.
Ryan Bomberger, a pro-life advocate, criticized the post, remarking, “The @DNC has lost its touch. Such posts are far from the norm.”
Virginia Kruta from The Daily Wire observed, “Coolness is akin to humor. If you must announce it… perhaps you lack it.”
Libby Emmons, editor-in-chief of The Post Millennial, hinted that the post needed moderation, suggesting a “Community Note.”
In retort, the GOP’s official X account shared a GIF capturing Biden’s stumble on the Air Force One steps.
Jake Schneider, the GOP rapid response director, responded with a succinct “WARNING: Cringeworthy.”
Steve Guest, who previously worked in communications for Senator Ted Cruz from Texas, labeled the post as “Disappointing.”
