Those on social media had difficulty digesting some of President Joe Biden’s comments regarding the border crisis.
One such remark was about the smuggling of fentanyl through the U.S.-Mexico border. Biden asserted 20,000 pounds of fentanyl had been smuggled over the border and that it could kill “1,000 Americans.” Biden also praised Vice President Kamala Harris’s efforts at the border, saying she “knows” what’s going on there better than anyone else.
Twitter critics quickly pointed out that 20,000 pounds of fentanyl could kill far more than 20,000 people.
Users also pointed out that Harris had recently declared the Southern Border was “safe,” noting the inconsistency between smuggling 20,000 pounds and safety.
Many also pointed out that the Vice President hadn’t visited the border in two years.
Biden made his remarks while announcing his administration’s efforts to reduce illegal migration to the U.S.
In recent weeks, Biden has been under immense pressure from Democratic and Republican lawmakers to address the record number of border crossings.
As Biden detailed his administration’s tougher stance on the border, the President made a series of statements that left Twitter users baffled.
Besides claims that Harris knew more about the border than anyone else or misquoting figures regarding the smuggling of illicit substances, Biden also suggested that migrants wouldn’t pay smugglers or “coyotes” to help them cross the border.
Users quickly pointed out that desperate Migrants had been doing that for years — often putting their lives in danger in the process — before questioning how out of touch Biden was.
