President Biden has discarded the Air Force One design chosen during the Trump administration in favor of a new one.
On Friday, an Air Force release noted that Biden had selected the “Next Air Force One” design to be a VC-25B aircraft. The design bears many similarities to the current VC-25A aircraft. However, the new aircraft is going to be larger and will have three major differences.
Firstly, the blue tone at the bottom of the plane is going to be “slightly deeper” when compared to the current “robin’s egg blue.” Similarly, the color in the area surrounding the cockpit is also going to be a darker shade of blue. It will also lack the polished metal section, as modern commercial aircrafts’ skin allow is not compatible with it.
According to the release the VC-25A is facing limitations relating to its capabilities, has parts that are now obsolete, and has increased maintenance costs. With the new VC-25B, the upgrades will include having electrical power, a mission communications system, a self-defense system and medical facility, and an executive interior.
Previously former President Donald Trump had selected a design for the new Air Force One that featured red, white, and blue as the color scheme. However, an Air Force review determined that the design selected by the previous administration would lead to an increase in costs and it would require more time until the aircraft would be ready for delivery.
The previous Air Force One design had been selected by the Kennedy administration and was discarded by Trump.
