Former President Donald Trump got a late Christmas gift in the classified documents found in a Private office President Joe Biden held.
The revelation that Biden was holding onto classified documents after he served as Vice President has been seized on by Republicans, using it as proof that the former President was unfairly targeted by the FBI when they raided his Mar-a-Lago residence.
Although there are significant differences in the cases, even Democrats can acknowledge the optics don’t favor Biden. Furthermore, they can admit the revelation gives Republicans a new line of attack and offers Trump a way to neutralize the most damming charges against him.
Tweeting an image of the Monopoly board game “get out of jail free” card, saying Trump saw that when the story broke.
After the story broke on Monday (January 9), Trump and his allies quickly highlighted the hypocrisy in the handling of the Biden classified docs.
Fox News host Tucker Carlson claimed Biden had done the very thing he accused Trump of doing.
Ignoring what many believe to be the key difference in the cases — Biden’s team promptly handed over the documents to the U.S. National Archive whereas, after many requests to turn over any outstanding classified documents by the National Archive, Trump kept classified material in his possession.
Yet, Trump’s defenders argue that the former President had a standing order to declassify documents.
Rep. James Comer (R-KY.), the new chairman of the House Oversight Committee, said on Fox News that the report was proof that a “two-tier justice system” exists within the Department of Justice “with how they treat Republicans vs. Democrats.”
Trump also queried when the FBI would “raid the many homes of Joe Biden, perhaps even the White House?”
