(Patriot.Buzz) – Having no cares in the world after being pressured to step down, Joe Biden is set to focus on a personal checklist by announcing a new federal investment of $150 million for his “Cancer Moonshot” initiative.
Co-headed by Jill Biden, “Cancer Moonshot” seeks to enhance technologies to assist surgeons in more effectively removing cancerous tumors, according to the White House.
This funding, which Biden revealed during a trip to New Orleans, has the ambitious goal of cutting the U.S. cancer death rate by 50% by 2047.
Experts believe this goal is reachable, given sufficient funding.
“We’re curing people of diseases that we previously thought were absolutely intractable and not survivable,” expressed American Cancer Society and the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network CEO Karen Knudsen.
Cancer remains the second leading cause of death in the U.S., trailing only behind heart disease.
This year, the American Cancer Society anticipates around 2 million new cancer diagnoses and 611,720 cancer-related deaths.
The plan is to deploy next-generation microscopes and imaging technologies to make these surgeries more successful.
This would potentially reduce the frequency of follow-up surgeries and minimize harm to healthy tissues.
The White House claimed such advancements could save more lives and extend others.
Over its first two years, the Biden administration has already allocated over $400 million to accelerate advancements in cancer prevention, detection and treatment.
In a recent Oval Office speech where he announced his decision not to run in the 2024 election, Biden revealed the cause is deeply personal.
He also vowed to continue his dedication to the “cancer moonshot” initiative to “end cancer as we know it.”
Institutions receiving this round of awards include notable names like Tulane, Dartmouth College, Johns Hopkins University, Rice University, the University of California, San Francisco, the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, the University of Washington, and Cision Vision in Mountain View, California.
In the same address, he emphasized that this initiative, along with strengthening the economy, defending abortion rights, protecting children from gun violence and addressing the Supreme Court’s current “extreme” composition, would be the focus in the final months of his tenure.
