In an appearance on “Good Morning Britain,” Valerie Biden Owens, President Joe Biden’s younger sister, confirmed that the President would be seeking re-election in 2024.
In the interview Biden Owens also praised Biden’s performance as President, saying, “Joe is the right person at the right time for the right job,” Biden Owens said. “There’s [a] lot of things still to do.”
When the interviewer pressed Biden Owens for a response on whether her brother would be seeking re-election in 2024, she responded, “Oh yes, absolutely.”
Biden’s sister isn’t the first person close to the President to confirm his intentions to seek re-election in 2024 when he’ll be turning 82.
According to reporting by The Hill, a source with knowledge of a conversation Biden had with former President Barack Obama where he revealed his plans to run in 2024 said, “[Biden] wants to run, and he’s clearly letting everyone know.”
The source added, “I believe he thinks he’s the only one who can beat Trump. I don’t think he thinks there’s anyone in the Democratic Party who can beat Trump, and that’s the biggest factor.”
However, whether Biden is the strongest candidate to face a possible Trump bid for Presidency is debatable, given the President’s approval ratings have dipped to 33 percent.
