More than 17,000 Christians have called for Representative Lauren Boebert, a Colorado Republican, to repent and resign after it was reported that she allegedly wished for the death of President Joe Biden during a Dallas church sermon.
On February 8, Faithful America, an online community of Christians, created a petition which has been signed by 17,986 Christians so far who are calling for GOP lawmakers’ resignation. The group is aiming to gather 20,000 signatures.
The group has argued that Boebert misinterpreted a Bible verse and interpreted it as wishing for someone’s death. Boebert however has argued that she only meant that Biden should be impeached. In the group’s statement which accompanied their petition, they argued that Boebert, frequently weaponized religion “to seize power and restrict the rights of anyone different than her” they further noted that she had been twisting the faith which took an “entirely new level by appearing to actually pray for Joe Biden’s death.”
Last June, Boebert had argued that the church and state were not meant to be separated and that the church is “supposed to direct the government.”
In their February statement, the group added regarding the specific incident, that during the sermon at Storehouse Dallas Church, Boebert has told the congregation that the Bible “says, ‘Let his days be few and another take his office.’” She proceeded to say that this was why she had filed impeachment charges against him.
