Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) slammed the GOP-led Texas House on Saturday claiming that the “impeachment plot” against him was just a “politically motivated sham.” He added that it was never meant to be fair and the vote in the Texas House, which he referred to as an “ugly spectacle” was further proof of that.

The Texas House in a 121-23 vote decided to impeach Paxton following a monthslong investigation which led to many accusations and allegations being brought forth against him. This included allegations of bribery, dereliction of duty, abusing public trust, and being deemed unfit from office. Paxton is now awaiting trial in the state Senate. He is suspended from office until the trial is completed.

Paxton alleged that his office had attempted to present evidence that would disprove all of the allegations being brought forth against him and even accused the House of refusing to examine any evidence that could have interfered with their preferred result. He added that the events that unfolded at the Texas House were not just about him, but rather they were about the “corrupt establishment’s eagerness to overpower” Texas voters who had re-elected him. He proceeded to note that he was thankful for the support of millions of Texans who have seen how illegal and unethical the proceedings against him were.

Paxton was reelected in 2018 and 2022, despite the fact that he has been under criminal indictment for securities fraud since 2015 relating to his conduct before he ever took office. On Saturday, former President Donald Trump also expressed his support for Paxton claiming he had done an “outstanding job.”
