On Tuesday former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) said that she believed Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) should keep his position as governor for right now, while he considers his options for 2024.
During an interview with Newsmax, Palin stated that DeSantis had no need to run and that she “envision(s) him as our president someday.” She added however that he is still young and has time ahead of him which could allow him to remain the governor for a bit longer before jumping into the Presidential race.
DeSantis is currently believed to be former President Donald Trump’s biggest competition for the party nomination.
A recent poll from Monmouth University showed that Trump and DeSantis are tied for the GOP presidential nomination. Palin on the other hand believes that Trump would win in 2024.
She said that she thinks “healthy, competitive primaries,” bring out the best in everyone, with more fruitful debates and people working harder. She continued though by saying that it would take a lot of “guts” to think that they could “go up against Trump.”
Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley (R) was the first challenger to officially launch a campaign against Donald Trump for the GOP primary. Haley is behind Trump and DeSantis in all polling and only received 1 percent of GOP support during last week’s Monmouth poll.
