Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) said you receive the most criticism when you surpass the target, noting days before he is expected to officially announce his 2024 GOP primary campaign that attacks on him have increased.
The liberal civil rights organization NAACP issued a travel advisory to Florida over the weekend, warning would-be tourists that recent laws and policies supported by DeSantis and Florida’s Republican supermajority are “openly hostile” to people of color, African-Americans, and LGBTQ+ people.
The move appears to be part of a growing effort by the left to censor and boycott governments, organizations, and companies that disagree with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) policies and other inclusive policies.
On Sunday (May 21), Biden responded to the advisory during a speech, declaring, “What a joke.”
The Florida Governor “We’ll see how effective [the advisory] is.”
DeSantis reminded people that during COVID, these same detractors were on CNN and other media, bashing Florida, saying the state is “so bad, don’t go to Florida,” only to be spotted on a beach somewhere on vacation in Florida.
As the audience laughed, DeSantis added the move was “just ridiculous.”
Ongoing efforts have been trying to crush DeSantis and his state’s tourism, a significant contributor to state coffers.
DeSantis noted that Florida is “proud” to lead the U.S. in tourism, adding that he believed that had been the case for several years.
“We get involved in these stupid fights,” DeSantis continued, referencing those attempting to sabotage the state during COVID.
“This is a stunt to try to do that,” the Florida Governor declared, adding that if detractors want to waste their time on stunts, “that’s fine,” but noted he would not be “wasting… time on your stunts, okay?”
