(Patriot.Buzz) – Underscoring the prevalence of drug dealers in California, Eduardo Escobedo, a 39-year-old convicted member of the notorious Sinaloa cartel and an associate of Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman’s son, was shot and killed in Willowbrook, California, near Los Angeles.

The incident, which occurred along Towne Avenue, also claimed the life of 47-year-old Guillermo De Los Angeles Jr., another convicted drug dealer, as reported by the Los Angeles Times. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department confirmed these fatalities.

Known by his alias “El Mago,” meaning “The Magician,” Escobedo was the cartel’s primary marijuana trafficker. He served nearly five years in federal prison for conspiring to distribute over 10,000 kilograms of marijuana and laundering drug money, being released in 2018.

The shooting happened in an industrial area characterized by warehouses, where Escobedo and De Los Angeles were found dead. A third individual, whose identity remains undisclosed, sustained non-fatal gunshot wounds and was hospitalized.

Lieutenant Omar Camacho of the sheriff’s department indicated that the site appeared to have hosted a gathering or party leading up to the early morning hours. Still, the motive behind the shooting remains unclear.

Escobedo’s connections ran deep within the drug world, primarily distributing marijuana in East Los Angeles for Ivan Archivaldo Guzman Salazar, El Chapo’s eldest son. His method of laundering money included purchasing exotic cars and shipping them to Culiacan, the capital of Sinaloa and a stronghold for the cartel.

Though Escobedo was never formally charged, he was suspected of orchestrating the 2008 freeway murder of a rival trafficker. His brother and another man were convicted of the murder and are currently serving life sentences.

In addition to his criminal activities, Escobedo had a penchant for flaunting his wealth and connections on social media. He posted pictures with celebrities like Floyd Mayweather and Al Pacino, showcasing his luxurious lifestyle, including wearing high-end fashion brands and sporting a diamond-encrusted watch. In some posts, he was seen with large sums of money and celebrating with influential figures, including members of the Mexican Mafia.
