(Patriot.Buzz) – Cementing its liberal credentials to the detriment of its lawful residents, California’s legislators are on the verge of allowing illegal aliens to access state-funded home loans worth millions.
The Democrat-dominated California Senate Appropriations Committee recently advanced AB 1840.
This bill could make its final legislative stop on the Democrat-controlled Senate floor before possibly reaching Governor Gavin Newsom’s desk.
This bill would modify the California Dream For All Shared Appreciation Loan program.
Initiated last year, the program aids first-time homebuyers by offering up to 20% of the home’s purchase price to help with the down payment or closing costs.
If this new legislation is enacted, illegals would also be eligible to participate.
San Diego County Supervisor Jim Desmond expressed his disapproval: “Once again, California has chosen to prioritize illegal immigration and fiscal irresponsibility over the needs of its citizens, all while facing a $60 billion deficit that will ultimately be passed onto taxpayers.”
Desmond highlighted, “California is in dire financial straits, yet lawmakers continue to prioritize programs that incentivize illegal immigration and strain local resources.”
“Expanding this program to include illegal immigrants is not just another handout — it’s a massive overreach that shifts the financial burden onto law-abiding taxpayers,” he added.
The program’s loans are interest-free, and participants are not required to make monthly payments, which has made the program very popular.
When it launched in May 2023 with a budget of $300 million, the funds were exhausted in under two weeks.
Since then, the state has revised the eligibility criteria to require applicants to be first-generation homebuyers and shifted from a first-come-first-serve basis to a lottery system.
Despite these adjustments and California’s significant budget deficit, some believe the program is still too exclusive.
State Senator Brian Dahle criticized the expansion, saying:
“California’s budget deficit continues to grow and Democratic lawmakers are so out of touch with everyday Californians that they and are quite literally taking money away from law-abiding citizens, their own constituents, and handing it over as a free gift to people who broke federal law to cross the border illegally.”
“There’s no accountability and transparency when it comes to the Democrats’ spending sprees, and it’s unfortunate because many Californians see homeownership as nothing more than an illusion at this point,” Dahle lamented.
