According to reporting by CNN, Vice President Kamala Harris hasn’t spoken to Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) since the latter’s apparent snub in endorsing the Vice President to be President Joe Biden’s running mate on a 2024 ticket.
The report reveals that despite Warren reaching out to Harris on two separate occasions since she made the remarks in January, the Vice President hasn’t answered or returned the phone calls of the Massachusetts Democrat.
Back in January, during an interview on Boston Public Radio, Warren seemingly stopped short of endorsing Harris to be on the 2024 ticket with President Joe Biden.
When the radio host asked Warren if Harris should be on the 2024 ticket alongside Biden, the Massachusetts Democrat replied, “I really want to defer to what makes Biden comfortable on his team.”
Warren explained that while she had known — and worked with — Harris back when the Vice President was the Attorney General, whomever Biden chooses has to be a team.
She clarified that she wasn’t suggesting Biden and Harris weren’t a team, elaborating that she believed the pair were a team.
Following the interview, Warren issued a statement to GBH News declaring that she “fully support[s] the president’s and vice president’s reelection together and never intended to imply otherwise.”
Yet despite Warren’s efforts to apologize and clarify, the CNN report reveals Harris and her team believe Warren’s statements are only the “latest in a long string of snubs to a vice president whom [Harris’ team believes] has never gotten the respect or support she deserves.”
The report also explains that Warren’s words were especially painful, given they originated from Harris’s rival, who wanted to be Biden’s running mate in 2020.
