The United Food and Commercial Workers Local 7, a union known for its aggressive tactics, orchestrated this walkout just days before the Super Bowl and Valentine’s Day, deliberately targeting the company’s profits during crucial shopping periods.
While union bosses claim to fight for workers’ rights, their actions threaten the livelihoods of countless employees who depend on King Soopers for their paychecks.
The timing of this strike is no coincidence, as UFCW Local 7 President Kim Cordova admitted that these days were intentional because they only care about profit and know how much these days mean to King Soopers.
Moreover, this blatant attempt to strong-arm the company into submission comes despite King Soopers’ generous offer of a $180 million investment in wages and a $4.50 wage increase over four years.
The average hourly rate for King Soopers workers is already an impressive $22.68, including healthcare and retirement benefits. Yet the union’s appetite for more is insatiable.
King Soopers President Joe Kelley criticized the union’s decision to strike before a National Labor Relations Board ruling on the alleged unfair labor practices.
This hasty action demonstrates the union’s disregard for due process and their willingness to use their members as pawns in a political game.
