Former President Donald Trump is lauding recent polls showing him ahead of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and President Joe Biden in hypothetical 2024 showdowns.
Taking to Truth Social, his social media app, Trump touted new polling figures, describing them as “looking GREAT,” noting that in a recent poll, he beat “Desanctimonious” 61-19 and “winning Big against ‘Hopeless’ Joe Biden,” while suggesting his lead against Biden is the reason “Democrats are rolling out their Fake Prosecutors.”
Trump added that he hoped GOP leaders “are watching [his prosecution],” adding, “An eye for an eye?”
In a Manhattan court, Trump pleaded not guilty on Tuesday (April 4) to three counts of falsifying corporate information.
The charges stem from Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s probe into alleged hush money payments made during Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign to adult film actress Stormy Daniels.
The six-figure sum was an effort to placate Daniels to remain silent about an alleged affair she had with Trump a decade prior.
Trump has denied the affair, maintaining his innocence.
A Reuters/Ipsos poll released Friday (April 7), following Trump’s court appearance, the former president received 58 percent of Republican and independent voters’ support, compared to Ron DeSantis’ 21 percent.
The survey was conducted on April 5 and 6 on 1,004 American adults. The poll included 464 Democrats, 368 Republicans, and 120 independents.
The measurement corresponding to the margin of error was 3.8 percent of all respondents.
Another recent poll conducted by Morning Consult and released on April 3 shows Trump leading DeSantis by 29 points. The survey polled 3,688 potential GOP primary voters between March 31 and April 2.
The poll’s unweighted margin of error is /-2 percentage points.
