Former First Lady Melania Trump’s fashion choices were once again thrown in the spotlight when several media outlets compared her treatment for wearing heels to visit Hurricane ravished communities to that of First Lady Jill Biden.

The Hill, conservative news outlet The Federalist, and Fox News Digital all had headlines about the lack of outrage by several media outlets that criticized Melania Trump for wearing heels in 2017 when she departed for a visit to Texas following Hurricane Harvey.

On Wednesday (October 5), President Joe Biden and the First Lady were photographed departing for Florida and arriving in Fort Myers to survey the damage caused by Category 4 storm Hurricane Ian. In every image of the First Lady, she can be seen wearing a pair of sling-back heels.

Although images of the First Lady touring Fort Myers were promoted by several outlets, the outrage they had about her choice of shoe was missing, a stark contrast to 2017, when Melania Trump boarded Air Force One in a pair of stilettos.

Several media outlets criticized Melania Trump’s decision to wear heels, with a New York Times headline reading, “Melania Trump, Off to Texas, Finds Herself on Thin Heels.”

Vogue also criticized the former First Lady’s look with the headline: “Melania Trump’s Hurricane Stilettos, and the White House’s Continual Failure to Understand Optics.”
The Washington Post made similar critiques in a write-up about Melania Trump’s fashion choice, writing the attire “offered up a fashion moment instead of an expression of empathy.”

Yet, unlike Jill Biden, Melania Trump had changed into sneakers by the time she arrived in Texas.
