NEW: Ice Cream Recall Expands

Recall notice over grocery store shelves.

(Patriot.Buzz) – The Food Drug Administration (FDA) recently issued a warning about a potentially deadly allergic reaction risk due to an expanded ice cream recall, which caused a health scare among consumers.

Containers labeled as Chocolate Peanut Butter were filled with Orange Custard Chocolate Chip ice cream, which contained eggs that could pose risks to individuals with egg allergies.

The affected products have production dates “09 1724” and “09 3024.” While no illnesses have been reported, the potential for harm exists.

Moreover, the FDA stated, “The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is warning of a potentially deadly allergic reaction following the expansion of an ice cream recall that was initiated due to an undeclared ingredient.”

“People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to eggs run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products,” the agency warned.

It is worth noting that eggs are one of the nine major food allergens recognized by the FDA. Approximately 6% of U.S. adults and 8% of children have at least one food allergy.

Meanwhile, Babcock Dairy claims to be “taking immediate corrective steps, including the retraining of employees on proper labeling procedures.”

Nevertheless, it is questionable why it took a potentially life-threatening mistake for them to ensure their employees were properly trained in the first place.

While the FDA scrambles to address this ice cream debacle, other more serious recalls are also in effect. Totally Cool, Inc. is recalling multiple brands of ice cream products due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.

This bacterium can cause serious infections, particularly in young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems, and can even lead to miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women.
