During the debate on a resolution to censure Representative Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) criticized Republicans for transforming the House of Representatives into a “puppet show”. The resolution aimed to reprimand Schiff for his handling of investigations into former President Trump. Last week, the initial attempt to censure Schiff failed when a group of 20 Republicans joined Democrats in blocking the resolution. However, a revised version of the resolution overcame a procedural obstacle on Wednesday as Republicans rejected Democrats’ motion to table it in a 218-208 party-line vote. The final vote on the resolution is scheduled for later on Wednesday.
Expressing her disapproval during the debate, Pelosi stated that the House, a historic chamber where significant milestones such as the abolition of slavery and the implementation of Medicare and social security took place, had been reduced to a puppet show by the opposing party. She further accused former President Donald Trump of pulling the strings, remarking that he was exposing the true nature of their actions. Pelosi endorsed Schiff’s bid for a Senate seat in California and referred to him as one of the most outstanding members of the House.
In her speech on the House floor, Pelosi highlighted the unproductive nature of the censure proceedings, noting that valuable time was being wasted instead of focusing on important matters such as reversing the Inflation Reduction Act or reducing the cost of prescription drugs.
