(Patriot.Buzz) – Blue Ridge Beef, a company identified with “quality, service, and safety” for over 40 years, has issued a recall of 9,600 pounds of Puppy Mix due to potential salmonella contamination.

This recall affects two-pound logs of raw pet food with UPC 854298001696 and lot numbers 08/06/N25 and 08/16/N25, distributed across seven states in August.

The Food Drug Administration’s (FDA) involvement came after a single customer reported that their litter of puppies became ill.

Despite Blue Ridge Beef’s long-standing commitment to quality, service, and safety, the government agency swiftly moved to enforce a recall, potentially damaging the company’s reputation and bottom line.

While the FDA claimed to be acting in the interest of public safety, it is questionable whether this level of intervention is truly necessary.

The recall notice states that Blue Ridge Beef “was notified by the FDA that these products tested positive” for salmonella.

However, it is worth noting that many raw food diets naturally contain bacteria that pets’ digestive systems are equipped to handle.

The FDA’s overreach extends beyond just pet safety. They asserted that humans handling the product are at risk, stating, “Salmonella can affect animals eating the products and there is risk to humans from handling contaminated pet products.”

Moreover, the agency’s recommendations border on the absurd, advising pet owners to “wash and sanitize pet food bowls, cups, and storage containers” after handling the recalled product.

Blue Ridge Beef, a company that has been serving pet owners for decades, now faces potential financial ruin due to this recall.

The FDA’s actions could force them to destroy thousands of pounds of product, impacting not only the company but also the farmers and suppliers who depend on their business.

“If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian,” the recall read.

It continued, “Consumers who have purchased this product are urged to return to the place of purchase or destroy the food in a way that children, pets, and wildlife cannot access… Wash and sanitize pet food bowls, cups, and storage containers.”
