(Patriot.Buzz) – Young children, frail individuals, and elderly individuals may be at risk, as Jack and Green Sprouts Inc. has issued a recall on its alfalfa sprouts line due to a threat of listeria monocytogenes contamination.

Last week, the Winsconsin-based company announced a recall of their 5oz alfalfa sprout packages.
The affected products, marked with lot #687 and UPC #763247198915, expire on January 29, 2025. This recall impacts sprouts distributed across Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa.
The withdrawal stems from potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination, a bacteria that can cause serious health issues. Still, no illnesses have been reported in connection with these products.
The FDA warned that listeria can be particularly dangerous for young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. It even claimed it can cause miscarriages in pregnant women.
“Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women,” the agency stated.
Moreover, Jack and the Green Sprouts Inc. conducted their own independent lab tests, which came back negative for listeria. Yet, based solely on Minnesota’s routine testing, they are forced to issue this recall.
While those who have purchased the affected alfalfa sprouts are advised to discard them, it is equally important to consider the broader implications of such actions on food industry and personal freedoms.
Alarmingly, this is not an isolated incident. Recent recalls have affected a wide range of products, from Frito-Lay potato chips to salmon sold at Costco.
Even more concerning, LG has recalled approximately 500,000 ranges due to a fire hazard, which has already resulted in property damage, injuries, and even pet deaths.
Listeria is an unfortunate but serious reality, with the CDC reporting around 1,600 incidents annually in the United States, 260 of which result in fatalities.
These dangers underscore the critical nature of adhering to warnings and recalls—measures that can, quite literally, save lives.
