(Patriot.Buzz) – Focusing on his outrageous response to the protests following George Floyd’s death in Minneapolis four years ago, Republicans are thrilled that Kamala Harris chose Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate.
House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) criticized Walz on the social platform X, stating he “let rioters burn Minneapolis to the ground in 2020.”
House GOP Chair Elise Stefanik (R-NY) echoed this sentiment, saying Walz “supported BLM rioters who torched Minneapolis to the ground.”
Additionally, GOP vice-presidential nominee Senator JD Vance (R-OH) mentioned the unrest in a recent speech.
“You think the black business leaders in Minneapolis are grateful — the working-class business leaders are grateful — that Tim Walz allowed rioters to burn down their business?” Vance questioned during a speech in Philadelphia.
Walz, who has served as both a congressman and a governor, is known for his progressive policy stances, which Republicans are now targeting.
Republicans have labeled him a socialist and argue that his selection completes the most liberal presidential ticket in U.S. history.
Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) remarked Walz “is a far-left candidate and choice. I frankly thought that [Harris] might try to choose a moderate, but obviously she has proven once again who she is.”
One GOP operative described Walz as “a Midwestern nice dude, but he’s a socialist and in a way that the rest of America is not. He’s going to be a problem for them.”
The same operative noted Walz’s support for policies like granting driver’s licenses to illegals and implementing red flag laws.
The MAGA Inc. political action committee emphasized criticisms of Walz for his alleged slow response in sending National Guard reinforcements during the 2020 riots.
The PAC also cited accusations from Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey (D) and a report from Minnesota state Senate Republicans.
For Republicans, Walz’s connection to the Minneapolis protests is part of a broader focus on crime in major U.S. cities and a recurring criticism of Harris, who, in 2020, promoted a fund that bailed out arrested protesters in Minneapolis.
Discussing electoral strategy, the GOP operative remarked that Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro “was the choice you make if you wanted to win an election. Tim Walz is the choice you make when you’re scared the left doesn’t trust you yet.”
