(Patriot.Buzz) – In an incident described as “nothing short of a miracle,” a Massachusetts community united to rescue a blind 20-year-old cat from certain death on an icy pond.

The dramatic rescue unfolded on Nabnasset Pond in Westford, where Tiki found himself stranded on a piece of ice about 30-40 feet from shore.

Dawn Felicani, a concerned citizen, spotted the helpless cat and immediately sprang into action.

“I was in the house for one minute and I looked out the slider and I was like what is that out on the water?” Felicani recounted.

As the situation grew dire, two brave bystanders, Kris and Nate, stepped in. Armed with nothing more than a rowboat and a shovel, Nate ventured out onto the treacherous ice to save Tiki’s life.

“We commandeered the neighbor’s boat and took a shovel and paddled out to it,” Nate explained.

The rescue was dangerous, as Felicani vividly described: “The crackling happened, and I was like, hysterical, And all of a sudden, it fell in! Its little head was sticking out! I’m in tears, and I’m freaking out.”

Westford Animal Control hailed the rescue as “nothing short of a miracle.” The agency added, “We immediately transported the cat for veterinary care where his temperature was so low that it didn’t even register on the thermometer.”

Tiki’s owner, John Arden, shared that the resilient cat is now doing well and behaving as if nothing happened, although “He’s pretty annoyed that he can’t go back outside.”
