(Patriot.Buzz) – In an attempt to boost his longshot campaign, independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. sharply criticized former President Donald Trump for surrendering to “bureaucrats.”
During his appearance at the Libertarian National Convention, Kennedy blasted Trump for his handling of COVID-19-related restrictions.
Kennedy praised Trump’s initial hesitance to enact lockdowns but pointed out that Trump eventually yielded to bureaucratic pressure.
“He gave keys to all of our business to a 50-year bureaucrat who had never been elected to anything and had no accountability,” Kennedy remarked.
According to Kennedy, Trump oversaw “the greatest restriction of individual liberties this country has ever known” without upholding constitutional values.
“Maybe a brain worm ate that part of my memory, but I don’t recall any part of the United States Constitution where there’s an exemption for pandemics,” Kennedy joked, referencing a personal health issue he disclosed having in 2010.
Kennedy said he wanted to see Trump confront these issues in a debate, although Trump had already declined an invitation to debate after dismissing Kennedy for not being “a serious candidate.”
In his communication with ABC News, Trump said he remained committed to the Libertarian audience:
“Libertarians are some of the most independent and thoughtful thinkers in our Country … We must all work together to help advance freedom and liberty for every American, and a second Trump Administration will achieve that goal. I look forward to speaking at the Libertarian Event, which will be attended by many of my great friends.”
Although he is not pursuing the Libertarian nomination, Kennedy still shares many of the party’ small-government ideals.
He garnered significant applause for his promise to immediately drop all charges against Julian Assange and pardon Edward Snowden if elected.
Additionally, Kennedy accused Joe Biden of orchestrating an “obscene orgy of federal censorship that was unprecedented in the American experience,” allegedly in collaboration with the FBI and social media platforms regarding COVID-19 vaccine information.
He criticized Biden for imposing vaccine mandates and targeted Trump for his significant role in promoting the COVID-19 vaccine through Operation Warp Speed—a project Trump has somewhat distanced himself from amid criticism.
This ongoing political saga occurs as recent polls show Trump narrowly leading Biden, with the gap widening slightly when Kennedy and independent candidate Cornel West are added in the survey.
