(Patriot.Buzz) – In a shocking antipatriotic move, an Oklahoman local sparked a protest after a student was told he could not display the American flag on his truck while on school grounds.

Senior Caleb Horst at Edmond North High School shared that on August 21, administrators told him he could not have the flag on his pickup even though he has been doing it for some time.
“I’ve never really had problems with it before, and it’s our First Amendment, so it’s kind of hard for them to infringe upon our rights,” Horst told KOCO.
The district claims that this rule is not about the flag or patriotism but is a long-standing practice to maintain safety and avoid disruptions.
It emphasizes that the flag is respectfully displayed at all school buildings and in classrooms.
Despite this explanation, the decision did not sit well with many. A large group of students and community members came to the school parking lot, flags in tow, to protest.
They even recited the Pledge of Allegiance together during the gathering.
“In the end, we’re all American, all united under that flag, and there’s not anything anyone can do to separate us,” Horst stated.
Another senior, Vance Miller, joined the protest because of his brother’s military service, highlighting the flag’s personal significance.
“It represents us, it’s unity, it represents us as one and it’s our freedom, we have people that fight and die for that flag every day, so I think we should be allowed to fly it,” Miller expressed.
He added, “It’d be different if we were trying to make a political statement, but there’s nothing political about it.”
The issue reached beyond the community. Oklahoma State Superintendent Ryan Walters took to social media to announce plans to create guidelines ensuring students can display the American flag without facing consequences.
“We have seen parents across the state who are so tired of people, young people, being told to hate their country or not be proud of their country,” Walters said.
“We want our young people to be proud of our country. Sounds like a lot of patriotic students at the school, and we want to encourage them to show love for the country,” he added.
Local legislators are also stepping in, urging the school district superintendent to revisit and possibly revise the existing policies.
