(Patriot.Buzz) – In a strong rejection of immorality and depravity, Susanna Gibson, a Virginia Democrat who was involved in an online sex scandal, has been defeated by her Republican opponent in Virginia House District 57, a highly competitive seat.
The Associated Press projected that Republican David Owen narrowly won the race following the controversy surrounding Gibson’s involvement in live-streamed sexual activities with her husband, including soliciting payments from viewers for specific acts.
Despite facing immense scrutiny, Gibson, a 40-year-old mother of two and a nurse practitioner, refused to withdraw from the race. She accused Republicans of engaging in dirty politics and illegal invasion of privacy to discredit her. The incident, she claimed, was an attempt to humiliate her and her family, but vowed not to be intimidated or silenced.
Instead of addressing her actions, Gibson sought to blame Republicans, saying, “My political opponents and their Republican allies have proven they’re willing to commit a sex crime to attack me and my family because there’s no line they won’t cross to silence women when they speak up.”
In an attempt to remind the electorate of the controversy, the Republican Party of Virginia used mailers containing screenshots from Gibson’s videos.
The 57th District, which includes parts of Richmond’s western suburbs in Henrico and Goochland counties, was rated the third-most competitive of Virginia’s 100 House of Delegates districts by the nonpartisan Virginia Public Access Project.
Despite the scandal, Gibson’s determination to stay in the race and the district’s slight lean toward Republicans based on recent voting patterns made this a closely watched and hard-fought election.
