Slavery Reparations Demanded By Who?!

(Patriot.Buzz) – Deciding to throw himself into the controversy by sticking to liberal talking points, U.N. Secretary General Antonio Guterres recently called for reparations to address the impact of the trans-Atlantic slave trade.

Guterres’ cry for reparations was based on his belief that the move would tackle slavery’s “legacy,” including “systemic racism and white supremacy.”

In a message commemorating the U.N. International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery, Guterres, with a background as a Portuguese Socialist, reflected on the long-lasting effects of colonialism and discrimination that he said continue to resonate through society.

“Descendants of enslaved Africans and people of African descent are still fighting for equal rights and freedoms around the world. Today and every day, we reject the legacy of this horrific crime against humanity,” he stated. “[…] We call for reparatory justice frameworks to help overcome generations of exclusion and discrimination.”

Repeating this call, a report by the U.N. in September suggested that nations should contemplate financial reparations as a means to amend the injustices of slavery.

Leading the Caricom reparations commission, Hilary Beckles emphasized the Secretary General’s decision, saying, “This is the movement that will signal, finally, the collective victory of humanity, of good over evil.”

The commission seeks reparations, including calls for canceling debts and supporting addressing public health crises from countries like the United Kingdom, France and Portugal for their colonial transgressions.

In the United States, this conversation has been spread among community leaders in Boston, Massachusetts, to urge “white churches” to shell out major financial reparations to the African American community to atone for their historical involvement in slavery.

During an event at Resurrection Lutheran Church, Reverend Kevin Peterson stated, “We call sincerely and with a heart filled with faith and Christian love for our white churches to join us and not be silent around this issue of racism and slavery and commit to reparations.”

Furthermore, Verene Shepherd, head of the Centre for Reparation Research at the University of the West Indies, commanded “Britain and other former and current colonial powers to own up to their responsibility.”
