(Patriot.Buzz) – A bombshell development has left Taylor Swift’s fans horrified, as authorities in Austria have arrested three individuals after uncovering a plot to attack the pop star’s concert.
Among the detainees, there is a 19-year-old with North Macedonian roots and a 17-year-old Austrian male.
The main suspect aligned himself with the Islamic State terrorist group and had chemical substances and devices at his home in Ternitz. This suggests he was taking steps to carry out the attack.
The plot, which came as a shock to Taylor Swift’s fans worldwide, involved stolen chemicals from the suspect’s former workplace: a metal processing company.
The suspect had been making a bomb and had plans to drive a car into the crowd at one of Swift’s concerts in Vienna.
The event was expected to draw 195,000 attendees but was canceled. The suspect also considered using machetes and knives for the attack.
Austrian authorities had been tipped off by U.S. intelligence about the threat, as the suspects had expressed allegiance to ISIS-K, a branch of the Islamic State, through messages on Telegram.
However, the plot was inspired by Islamic State rather than being directly orchestrated by the terror group.
This incident highlights ongoing security concerns for large public events. It reminded the region of past threats, including a foiled attack against Vienna’s gay pride parade last year by suspects linked to Islamic State.
In response, Austrian national security has been tightened, especially after a deadly attack in Vienna in 2020 by a convicted jihadist, marking the city’s first militant attack in a generation.
After her Eras Tour was impacted by this threat, Taylor Swift has not publicly talked about the cancellations.
Meanwhile, her fans have expressed deep disappointment. One fan said on social media, “i can’t believe the concert i’ve been waiting for over 10 years is now gone. i don’t think i’ll ever get over this.”
Another one wrote, “As disappointing as not being able to go to this concert is TRUST ME u do not want to experience that.”
Meanwhile, promoters have committed to refunding tickets for the canceled shows.
