(Patriot.Buzz) – In a leftwing effort to blame conservative policies for irresponsible decisions, Texas is being accused of the skyrocketing rate at which teenagers are having babies in the state.
According to abortion advocates, Texas’ abortion law is what caused a rise in teenage birth rate, making it the highest in 15 years. Following the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade in 2022, Texas enacted a total abortion ban, adding to the six-week prohibition already in place.
A study by the University of Houston Institute for Research on Women, Gender & Sexuality found an increase in the birth rate among teens aged 15 to 19. The birth rate went from 20.32 to 20.4 births per 1,000 teenagers, marking a 0.39% rise.
“While that is a relatively small rise, the shift in the downward teen trend for the first time in 15 years is notable given both the 2021 ban and the continued fall among teens in the US overall,” according to the report.
Interestingly, the increase in birth rates varied among different racial groups of teenagers in Texas. Hispanic, Black, and Asian teenagers saw a slight increase in their birth rates, while the birth rates among white teenagers decreased.
The report also highlighted that the overall fertility rate in Texas saw a 2% increase in 2022. This rise was particularly noticeable among Hispanic women aged 25-44, with an 8% increase in births in this group.
The study suggests that childcare issues might have contributed to the increased birth rates among older women. Among the challenges women face are already having children at home and having difficulties traveling.
“If families were already facing financial difficulties, additional mouths to feed would only further draw on limited resources, further impoverishing all family members,” the report concluded, pointing out the broader implications of these changes in birth rates, family resources and well-being.
