(Patriot.Buzz) – In a momentous breakthrough for the U.S. Air Force, Captain Lacie “Sonic” Hester made history by becoming the first woman to be awarded the Silver Star for combat valor.

Her bravery during the Iranian missile and drone assault on Israel has set a new precedent for women in the military. This achievement underscores the crucial role women play in safeguarding freedom and national security.
Captain Hester’s Silver Star marks the first time a female airman has been recognized with this honor.
Her role was pivotal during the massive air operation that involved Iranian forces launching over 300 missiles and drones at Israel.
Hester, serving as a weapons systems officer onboard an F-15E Strike Eagle, showcased extraordinary courage and expertise in neutralizing these threats.
This award is highly significant as the Silver Star is the nation’s third-highest military decoration for valor in combat.
Together with her partner, Major Benjamin “Irish” Coffey, the captain was essential in downing over 80 Iranian drones, making this the largest air-to-air enemy engagement by the United States in over 50 years.
Moreover, the operation involving Hester was a complex undertaking requiring precise coordination, including mid-air refueling and rearming of aircraft. Coalition forces intercepted 99% of the incoming threats.
The mission not only highlighted the tactical prowess of the U.S. military but also set a precedent for acknowledging the role of women in direct combat operations.
“Although intelligence provided the numbers of how many [one-way attack] drones we could expect to see, it was still surprising to see them all,” she stated.
In addition, the award ceremony at RAF Lakenheath included the presentation of various decorations to members of the 494th Fighter Squadron and 494th Fighter Generation Squadron.
Despite controversy relating to women in combat raised by President-elect Donald Trump’s defense secretary pick, Pete Hegseth, the event celebrated these units’ unquestionable bravery and skill.
Captain Hester’s historic recognition not only highlights her individual courage but also signals evolving attitudes towards women in combat roles, encouraging future generations of women to serve with pride and distinction in the defense of freedom and democracy.
The impact of Hester’s actions extends beyond the battlefield, setting a transformative example for women’s roles within the military landscape and paving the way for more accomplishments in this vital arena.
