As Republicans express their outrage at the Monday (August 8) raid of former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene revealed she filed articles of impeachment against Attorney General Merrick Garland on Friday (August 12).

In her resolution, Greene states that Garland’s “personal approval to seek a search warrant for the raid on the home of the 45th President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, constitutes a blatant attempt to persecute a political opponent,” echoing sentiments expressed by several in the GOP.

Republicans have accused the Department of Justice of pursuing a search warrant against the former President for political reasons, with Trump himself adding to the criticism.

The search warrant causing a stir among those in the GOP was approved by a federal judge and unsealed on Friday, revealing that the warrant was granted because investigators suspected Trump was in contravention of the Espionage Act.

A federal judge approved the unsealing of the warrant after the Department of Justice and Trump’s agreed to it.

Greene’s resolution also acknowledged the request to unseal the warrant, stating Garland’s “effort to unseal the search warrant for the home of former President Donald J. Trump constitutes an attempt to intimidate, harass, and potentially disqualify a political challenger to President Joseph R. Biden, Jr.”

Despite the assertion that the raid and request to unseal the warrant are politically motivated, the White House has repeatedly stated that Biden had no prior knowledge of either. There has also been no evidence to dispute the White House’s statements.
