(Patriot.Buzz) – In a tragic revelation, beloved talk show host Wendy Williams was declared permanently incapacitated due to having dementia while simultaneously fighting against media exploitation of her vulnerable condition.
In recent legal filings, Williams’ court-appointed guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, dropped a bombshell. She claimed the former queen of daytime TV is now “cognitively impaired, permanently disabled, and incapacitated” due to a devastating battle with dementia.
This shocking revelation comes as Morrissey wages war against A&E Networks for allegedly taking advantage of Williams’ declining mental state.
60-year-old Williams was diagnosed with primary aggressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia in May 2023, marking a steep fall from her days as a sharp-tongued pop culture commentator.
Her condition has deteriorated to the point where she is now under full legal guardianship, with Morrissey managing both her health and finances since 2022.
At the heart of this legal battle is the Lifetime documentary “Where Is Wendy Williams?” released in February.
Morrissey confirmed the network “cruelly took advantage of [Williams’] cognitive and physical decline by creating and publishing a documentary at a time when [Williams] was highly vulnerable and clearly incapable of consenting to be filmed.”
“None of the defendants ever gained the guardian’s consent for [Williams’] participation to be filmed, and the guardian did not learn of the talent agreement until March 2023, seven months after the start of filming,” Morrissey’s lawyer stated.
In addition, Morrissey asserted that the documentary producers earned millions while Williams was paid a mere $82,000 for her involvement.
However, the defendants are not taking these allegations lying down. They argued that Morrissey’s claims were nothing more than a smokescreen to cover her own failure to protect Williams.
They insist they had Williams’ consent before her dementia diagnosis and prior to the establishment of her guardianship, setting the stage for a heated courtroom showdown.
As this legal drama unfolds, Williams’ family finds themselves caught in the crossfire. They declared they were kept in the dark about her diagnosis and now have limited access to the star.
Williams’ sister, Wanda Finnie, has raised pointed questions about the effectiveness of the current guardianship system, hoping that Williams might one day be able to speak for herself again.
“How did she go from this aunt or sister that we love and is healthy one minute to this person who’s in and out of the hospital? How is that system better than the system the family could put in place? I don’t know,” Williams’ sister stated.
She added, “I do know that this system is broken. I hope that at some point, Wendy becomes strong enough where she can speak on her own behalf.”
