Former President Donald Trump shared a post on Truth Social, saying that there isn’t a “one true Trump supporter” who would support Florida Governor Ron DeSantis if he won the Republican presidential nomination.
The post adds to speculation that DeSantis could face a boycott by Trump supporters if he is the GOP nominee in 2024.
Meanwhile, appearing on Rudy Giuliani’s podcast, Arizona Republican Kari Lake, a staunch Trump ally who lost her election bid for governor last November and is expected to be his running mate, told the Florida Governor that he should wait “until 2028” to launch a Presidential campaign if he “wants a political future.”
While DeSantis is yet to officially announce his candidacy for the presidency, NBC News reports that he is likely to officially announce his entry in the coming weeks.
Polls show DeSantis is the most popular choice among Republican voters after Trump and thus is the former President’s most dangerous competitor in the GOP primary.
In an April 27 post on Truth Social, country singer John Rich warned DeSantis against running for the GOP nomination against Trump.
Rich wrote that he didn’t “understand the logic of DeSantis running,” wondering what would happen if DeSantis beat Trump in the primary — emphasizing that he didn’t believe that would happen — but asked people to imagine DeSantis winning.
Rich explained that if DeSantis won, he would fail in the general election because no Trump supporters would vote for him.
Sharing Rich’s message, Trump wrote that he always believed Rich was a “very smart guy.”
