Former President Donald Trump continued his disparaging remarks toward Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY.) on Thursday (September 15).
In a statement from his Save America PAC, Trump called McConnell an “absolute Loser” and accused the Kentucky Republican of giving Democrats “everything they want.”
Trump took issue with McConnell not stopping “trillions of dollars in spending by refusing to use the debt ceiling as a negotiating tool,” adding the Senate Minority Leader “gave it up for nothing.”
Trump’s remarks seemingly have to do with Congress approving a government funding measure to avoid a government shutdown.
Despite lawmakers appearing to move ahead with a short-term funding bill, Senate Republicans have pointed to McConnell being exceptionally guarded about negotiations.
The former President also seemingly criticized McConnell for supporting Democratic Senator Joe Manchin’s (W.Va.) proposal to accelerate energy and infrastructure projects by overhauling the permitting process, which is set to be included in the continuing resolution.
McConnell isn’t the only Senate Republican backing the proposal. Thirty-seven others have co-sponsored the legislation.
Trump also praised GOP Senators Mike Lee (Utah), Rick Scott (Florida), and Ted Cruz (Texas) for spearheading a plan to prevent Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) from using his “favorite” Senator McConnell to ram “through a disastrous Continuing Resolution.”
Trump claimed the continuing resolution would be disastrous for the economy.
He then expressed the need for “a LONG-TERM Continuing Resolution, so we can deal with the real Emergency at hand, the Radical Left’s destruction of America, and once again, put AMERICA First. McConnell is so bad!”
