Former President Donald Trump believes the reporter who broke the story on the draft opinion in which Supreme Court Justice relayed their intention to overturn the Dobbs v Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision should be put in jail until they reveal who the leak was.
Trump’s remarks come after the Court publicized on Thursday (January 19) that a Court Marshal investigation hadn’t uncovered who made the leak.
Yet, the investigation’s report ruled out a possible third party as making the leak saying that the Court’s IT system hadn’t been compromised.
Writing on Truth Social, Trump expressed his belief the Court would never learn who leaked the opinion.
He suggested that the investigation should turn to the reporter who broke the story, asking them who it was.
“If not given the answer, put whoever in jail until the answer is given,” the former President added that the publisher and editor could also receive jail time.
In May 2022, Politico broke the story that conservative Supreme Court Justices intended to Overturn Dobbs v Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision — effectively overturning federal protection for abortion.
The report included a draft opinion of the decision.
The revelation resulted in protests across the nation and targeted the homes of conservative Justices and pro-life organizations.
The contents of the leak and its unprecedented nature prompted outrage from conservative lawmakers, who criticized that a draft opinion was made public before the Justices made the ruling.
Trump had previously suggested the Supreme Court approach the reporter who broke the story for details on their source.
