Former President Trump praised former Vice President Mike Pence by calling him an “honorable man” on Friday during an interview with Fox News Digital.

The Department of Justice’s special counsel, Jack Smith, leading the two investigations against Trump sent a subpoena to Pence. Smith was first appointed by Attorney General Merrick Garland in November, following Trump’s announcement that he would be running in the 2024 presidential election. Smith is going to be overseeing the Justice Department’s investigations into Trump’s role in the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack, as well as the case regarding the classified material found in Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate.

CNN reported that the subpoena included a request for both testimony from Pence as well as documents relating to the Jan. 6, events. Pence is known to have rejected Trump’s request to block the 2020 election certification on Jan. 6. At the time Trump had taken to Twitter to write “Mike Pence didn’t have the courage to do what should have been done.” At the same time, rioters entered the U.S. Capitol.

Despite the recent falling out between the two men, Trump defended Pence after it was revealed that the former vice President had classified documents in his home. Last month Pence had brought outside counsel to search through his home following the discovery of classified documents in President Biden’s possession.

Classified documents were also found in Pence’s records and they were short handed over to the FBI.
