Legal experts believe former President Donald Trump’s most significant legal threat is an Atlanta-area prosecutor digging into Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 electoral defeat in the state.
An unnamed source with insight into the matter has revealed that the former President’s team is keeping a close eye on Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis’s investigation.
The source revealed that concerns about the investigation heightened in Trump’s inner circle when the former President’s advisors, Rudy Giuliani and Senator Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), were subpoenaed.
Noah Bookbinder, president of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, believes that Willis’s actions do point to her pursuing charges further down the line.
“The steps her office has taken, including empaneling a special grand jury and subpoenaing high-profile witnesses, are very likely not steps she would have taken if she did not feel there was at least a significant possibility that she will move forward with charges,” Bookbinder noted.
He also acknowledged that the stakes were high for Trump, but that the evidence “is extremely compelling.”
Although Trump faces numerous investigations — including a Congressional investigation into Jan. 6, a New York investigation into fraud, and one by the Department of Justice probe — the Georgia investigation poses the most immediate threat to Trump’s allies.
According to a partner at law firm Mark S. Zaid and national security lawyer Bradley Moss, the Georgia investigation represents the most “clear-cut criminal exposure facing Trump,” especially as the “Manhattan criminal probe” winds down.
Even more damaging for Trump is that as he gears to launch his 2024 Presidential campaign, the Georgia investigation appears to be ramping up.
