Former President Donald Trump previewed possible talking points in next year’s presidential race on Saturday (March 4) at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference.
Trump suggested he is the savior in an existential battle for the nation’s future.
During his speech in front of a group of die-hard supporters at National Harbor, MD., Trump told attendees the GOP has “no choice,” asserting if he didn’t run for President, “our country will be lost forever.”
The former President claimed voters were “tired of RINOs” — an acronym for Republican in Name Only — and globalists, as they desire to see “America First.”
Trump explained his belief that the 2024 elections are the “final battle,” adding, “They know it. I know it. You know it. Everybody knows it.”
The former President acknowledged that “Either [Democrats] win, or [the GOP] win,” but emphasized that “if [Democrats] win, we no longer have a country.”
Trump then declared himself a “warrior” in a fight for “retribution” in Washington.
Trump referenced remarks he made in 2016 about him saying he is the “voice” for Americans. On Saturday, he extended that assignment, saying he is also the nation’s “justice” and “warrior” among those who “are wronged and betrayed,” adding, “I am your retribution.”
Trump’s speech continued for roughly 100 minutes. During that time, the former President brought up several familiar grievances, including the well-known lament of his loss in the 2020 Presidential election.
The former President suggested the GOP establishment would no longer be prominent in the party, saying, “We are never going back to the party of Paul Ryan, Karl Rove and Jeb Bush.”
