In Georgia, State Senator Colton Moore is taking steps to impeach District Attorney of Fulton County, Fani Willis, due to her charges against ex-President Trump.
State Sen. Moore of Georgia has initiated impeachment proceedings against Willis, alleging that she is pursuing a political vendetta against Trump.
Taking to social media on Thursday, Moore stated, “As a representative of the people of Georgia, I’m demanding an urgent session to scrutinize the conduct of Fani Willis.”
“We’re facing a national challenge. I can’t remain passive while extreme left-wing prosecutors aim their sights at political rivals,” he further commented.
Moore has sent a formal request to Georgia’s Governor Brian Kemp, urging for a special session to delve into “Fani Willis’s actions.”
A collective of Georgia legislators have signed a document stating: “In line with Article IV, Section II, Paragraph VII(b), we, as elected officials from both the Georgia House and Senate and constituting 3/5 of both houses, officially notify you of our belief that there’s an ongoing state emergency that necessitates a special session. This session should encompass, but not be restricted to, examining and addressing the conduct of Fani Willis.”
Following the indictment of the former president and several others by a Fulton County grand jury, Willis conducted a press briefing on Monday. She has provided Trump and the 18 others named in the indictment a deadline until Aug. 25 at noon to present themselves to the authorities.
Post-indictment, Trump’s campaign highlighted Willis, making note of her family background, particularly mentioning her father’s association with the Black Panthers.
Upon the release of the charges, the Trump campaign reached out to its backers, referencing information from a 2021 article in Time magazine and the Fulton County official site. The communication emphasized that Willis is from a “background deeply rooted in animosity” and identified her as the “offspring of an ex-Black Panther”, pointing to the mentioned Time magazine article for context.
