Former President Donald Trump questions where he’ll get his reputation back after testimony in the Michael Sussman case reveals Hilary Clinton gave the go-ahead to disseminate false claims about Trump’s interaction with Russia.
Fox News first reported the former President’s comments after Robby Mook testified on Friday (May 20) that Clinton approved of disseminating false information to the media that alleged there were covert communication channels between the Trump Organization and a Russian bank.
Trump noted that “This is one of the greatest political scandals in history,” adding that “For three years, I had to fight her off, and those crooked people off, and you’ll never get your reputation fully back.”
In his testimony, Mook said Clinton “agreed” to share the discredited data with the media.
A day earlier, former FBI General Counsel James Baker testified that the Bureau had investigated the information alleging a link between a Kremlin-linked bank and Trump, finding “there was nothing there.”
Trump queried, “Where do I get my reputation back?” seemingly lamenting the reputational damage the Russia claims had on him.
The former President also wasted no time calling out GOP leadership, saying, “if we had real leadership, instead of people like Mitch McConnell, they would do something about it,” he pointed to “guys like Bill Barr” as an example.
Trump also emphasized that if the law enforcement and intelligence community resources devoted to investigating him had not been distracted, they could have focused on “a real danger with Russia.”
