US Threatened: ‘I Will Shut Off Electricity Completely’

Yellow signs with the word threats overlapping

(Patriot.Buzz) – Ontario Premier Doug Ford threatened the U.S., saying at a news conference in Toronto that he would not hesitate to shut the electricity off completely.

Ontario has slapped a 25% surcharge on electricity exports to New York, Michigan, and Minnesota, potentially costing U.S. households an extra $100 monthly.

The move comes as retaliation for Trump’s tariffs on Canadian goods and could escalate into a complete power shutdown.

Premier Doug Ford did not mince words when announcing the surcharge, which targets approximately 1.5 million American homes and businesses along the northern border.

The measure, which took effect immediately, represents a significant escalation in the growing trade war between the U.S. and its longtime ally and largest trading partner.

Ford made it clear that this would be the beginning if Trump continued his trade policies.

“I will not hesitate to shut off electricity completely,” he warned, sending shockwaves through energy markets and border communities.

The surcharge is expected to generate between CA$300,000 and CA$400,000 daily for Ontario. This revenue will support local Canadian workers and businesses harmed by U.S. tariffs.

Meanwhile, the Canadian federal government has already implemented reciprocal tariffs on $30 billion worth of American goods.

The energy dispute has already triggered market instability, contributing to significant drops in the S&P 500 index.

While President Trump remains optimistic about the long-term benefits of his tariff strategy, American families are bracing for yet another increase in their cost of living, this time courtesy of foreign retaliation against his policies.

Moreover, Ford took aim at Republicans who privately disagreed with Trump but remained silent publicly.

“Republicans, at least the ones I speak to, do not agree with President Trump but they are too scared to go out there and say it publicly,” Ford stated, exposing the political pressure campaign maintaining support for these tariffs despite their economic impact on American citizens.

The situation could worsen as Quebec is now considering similar measures for its electricity exports.

Energy experts warn that these retaliatory actions threaten the reliability of the interconnected electric grid between the U.S. and Canada, potentially leaving American border states vulnerable to power shortages or price spikes during peak demand periods.

Liberal governors in affected states are scrambling to respond. New York’s Kathy Hochul has ordered a review of the potential impact on energy costs, while Minnesota’s Tim Walz has expressed concern about the escalating trade tensions.

Ultimately, Ford has made it clear that the surcharge will remain in place until Trump removes the tariffs on Canadian goods.

Even though Trump recently delayed tariffs on Canadian and Mexican imports by one month, Ontario is standing firm with its electricity surcharge, showing this standoff is not likely to end soon unless the Trump administration caves to Canadian pressure.
