(Patriot.Buzz) – In an odd choice of words, billionaire Oprah Winfrey told CBS that a Democrat victory this fall would make women so happy that they would be “weeping in the streets.”
Speaking at the Democrat National Convention, Winfrey revealed her thoughts on what it would mean if Kamala Harris won the presidential election in 2024.
She also expressed strong support for abortion rights and discussed the significance of a Harris victory.
“It will mean that the glass ceiling has been shattered,” Winfrey stated, envisioning a world where “women all over the world will be weeping in the streets” at Harris’ potential win.
Highlighting Harris’ background, Winfrey remarked, “It will mean that actually anything is possible because this is her mother, her father, two immigrants coming to the United States … only in America could Kamala Harris’ story be possible,” she said during an interview on “CBS Mornings.”
Winfrey restated her stance on abortion, framing it as crucial to personal freedom. “A lot of things are on the line, a lot of things are at stake,” she noted.
“I don’t need the right to abortion, but I believe that the right to control your body and be able to control what happens to you, particularly as a ‘woman person,’ in this country, it’s essential, it’s fundamental,” Winfrey stated.
She warned that the freedoms she has enjoyed are now threatened and linked abortion rights to broader national ideals.
Winfrey argued at the DNC that such rights are intertwined with the American dream.
“If you do not have autonomy over this” she said, gesturing toward her body, “if you cannot control when and how you choose to bring your children into this world, and how they are raised and supported, there is no American Dream.”
Describing those who fight for abortion rights as “the new freedom fighters,” Winfrey praised them as “the best of America.”
Winfrey closed by sharing why she chose to speak at the DNC: “Decency and respect are on the ballot. And that’s why I was willing to do it.”
