(Patriot.Buzz) – President-elect Donald Trump is taking action to defend himself from media bias by filing a lawsuit against Iowa newspaper Des Moines Register, pollster Ann Selzer and Gannett for “brazen election interference” and fraud.
This legal action, filed under the Iowa Consumer Fraud Act, underscores his ongoing battle against what he perceives as unfair media coverage and manipulation of public opinion.
The lawsuit, filed in Polk County, Iowa, targets a poll published just days before the election that predicted Kamala Harris’s victory in Iowa.
This prediction starkly contrasted with the actual results, where Trump secured a decisive 13-point victory.
The legal action alleged that Selzer and the Register deliberately manipulated the poll to favor Harris, creating a false narrative that misled voters and impacted campaign strategies.
“Contrary to reality and defying credulity, defendants’ Harris Poll was published three days before Election Day and purported to show Harris leading President Trump in Iowa by three points; President Trump ultimately won Iowa by over thirteen points,” the lawsuit stated.
Moreover, Trump’s legal team argued that such manipulation deceives voters and affects campaign strategies, potentially interfering with the electoral process.
The lawsuit further contends that Selzer’s influential position in the polling industry magnified the impact of the alleged deception.
“While Selzer is not the only pollster to engage in this corrupt practice, she had a huge platform and following and, thus, a significant and impactful opportunity to deceive voters,” the lawsuit claimed.
This legal action follows a recent settlement in which ABC News and George Stephanopoulos agreed to pay $15 million to Trump’s foundation over a defamation lawsuit.
The former president has publicly threatened further legal actions against media entities he accuses of bias, stating, “I’m not doing this because I want to; I’m doing this because I feel I have an obligation to.”
Ann Selzer, the pollster at the center of the controversy, has denied any wrongdoing. In an interview, she expressed confusion over the allegations, stating:
“I don’t understand it. And the allegations I take very seriously. They’re saying that this was election interference, which is a crime…”
“The idea that I intentionally set up to deliver this response, when I’ve never done that before … I’ve had plenty of opportunities to do it. It’s not my ethic,” she continued.
“In my opinion it was fraud and election interference,” Trump asserted, emphasizing the gravity of the situation.
As this legal battle unfolds, it raises crucial questions about media integrity, the role of polling in elections, and the rights of public figures to challenge coverage they deem unfair.
Trump’s lawsuit serves as a rallying cry for supporters who have long criticized mainstream media bias and its potential impact on electoral outcomes.
