(Patriot.Buzz) – Legendary ESPN sportscaster Dick Vitale’s triumphant return to college basketball after his vocal cords beat cancer is a slam dunk for American resilience.
See the tweet below.
Vitale, a beloved figure in sports broadcasting since 1979, has been declared cancer-free and cleared to return to calling games.
This news comes as a breath of fresh air for fans who have missed his energetic commentary and iconic catchphrases since 2022.
Vitale’s absence from the airwaves was due to a series of health challenges that would have sidelined a lesser man, but not this American fighter.
The sportscaster’s journey back to health is nothing short of miraculous. Vitale was diagnosed with melanoma in August 2021, followed by lymphoma in October of the same year.
As if that was not enough, he faced vocal cord issues in early 2022. In July, he underwent surgery to remove a cancerous lymph node discovered in his neck.
“I miss so much the entire college spirit at the games as I always love being able to share time with the players, coaches, fans, media and especially my ESPN colleagues,” Vitale said through text messages last March.
“Just had a scope of my vocal cords and I was very emotional with the great report by Dr. Zeitels,” Vitale stated.
“He said the vocal cords are cancer free and he feels I can return to my love of being at courtside for ESPN,” he continued.
Now clear of cancer, his potential courtside commentary comeback promises a fresh chapter of excitement for sports fans.
The 85-year-old broadcasting icon’s recovery from multiple cancer battles showcases the power of faith, determination, and cutting-edge medical care that makes America the envy of the world.
