(Patriot.Buzz) – What was supposed to be a time for peace and reflection turned into disruption as a man committed bizarre acts on Christmas Eve services at two Catholic churches in Maryland, which led to his arrest.
Thomas Campbell Bolling Von Goetz’s actions not only desecrated sacred spaces but also threatened the safety of churchgoers gathered to celebrate one of Christianity’s holiest nights.
The first incident occurred at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Avenue, Maryland, shortly after 5 p.m. on December 24.
Von Goetz approached the altar during Mass and dropped an onion in the aisle, causing alarm among the congregation. As he left the church, he escalated his aggressive behavior by allegedly assaulting a person with tangerines.
Not content with disrupting one service, Von Goetz then made his way to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Leonardtown.
There, he committed an even more egregious act by pouring whiskey into the holy water, a direct attack on the sanctity of the church.
During the midnight Mass, he threatened parishioners and attempted to hit several individuals with a whiskey bottle as he was being escorted out.
Moreover, the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office responded to the disturbances, but the brave actions of church attendees initially subdued Von Goetz. They detained him until deputies arrived.
The charges against Von Goetz are extensive and reflect the severity of his crimes. He faces multiple counts, including second-degree assault, disorderly conduct, defacing religious property, religious crime against a group, obstructing a religious exercise, threat of mass violence, and disturbing the peace.
This incident is a stark reminder of the increasing attacks on religious institutions and traditional values in America.
It also highlights the need for stronger protections for places of worship and harsher penalties for those who seek to disrupt religious services or desecrate sacred spaces.
