President Donald Trump has signed executive orders with a clear goal in mind: to unleash American energy independence by streamlining nuclear power regulations.
The bold move cuts through decades of bureaucratic red tape that has stifled nuclear development.
It also positions the United States to meet growing energy demands while keeping costs low for hardworking Americans.
President Trump signed multiple executive orders to reform the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to speed up reactor deployment.
The orders will overhaul the federal approval process for nuclear projects, allow construction on federal lands, and expand uranium mining and enrichment.
These are all crucial steps for energy independence that excessive regulations have blocked.
During the signing ceremony, which was attended by nuclear energy CEOs and government officials, President Trump emphasized the importance of proper execution in this vital sector.
“It’s a hot industry. It’s a brilliant industry. You have to do it right,” the president stated, highlighting his administration’s commitment to the responsible development of nuclear energy.
The orders will slash regulatory burdens that have crippled American nuclear innovation. The clear goal is to complete regulatory reviews within 18 months.
This represents a dramatic improvement over the current system, which has approved only two operational reactors since 1978 due to excessive regulatory concerns.
Meanwhile, America’s adversaries like China and Russia have surged ahead in nuclear development.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated, “We’re including artificial intelligence in everything we do. If we don’t, we’re not fast enough. We’re not keeping up with adversaries. You need the energy to fuel it. Nuclear is a huge part of that.”
The initiative comes at a critical time as electricity demand is projected to skyrocket due to artificial intelligence technology.
President Trump’s executive actions establish a framework for the Departments of Energy and Defense to build nuclear reactors on federal land for defense facilities and AI data centers.
Nuclear stocks rose following the announcement, signaling market confidence in the president’s plan to revitalize the overburdened industry.
The administration is even reviewing the potential restart of two mothballed nuclear plants: Palisades in Michigan and Three Mile Island in Pennsylvania, which would create American jobs and boost energy production.
President Trump’s orders focus on both small, advanced reactors and traditional large plants, creating a thorough approach to nuclear expansion.
Constellation Energy CEO Joseph Dominguez explained why nuclear power is essential for America’s future.
He said that “some of the largest companies in the world…who need this energy for AI…are now working with us to fund the development and construction of the next generation (of) nuclear.”
President Trump also signed a fifth order to restore “gold standard science” in federal research.
Under these orders, America will reclaim its rightful position as the world’s energy and technology leader.
