Interior Secretary Doug Burgum has revealed the untapped wealth beneath feet and off of shores, which dwarfs the $36.6 trillion national debt.
Yet this game-changing asset remains deliberately ignored by Washington elites who would rather burden Americans with crushing debt than unleash economic potential.
Secretary Burgum dropped this bombshell during a Breitbart News policy event this week, challenging the conventional narrative about America’s financial health.
While politicians and the media constantly bemoan the growing national debt, they completely overlook the enormous value of America’s natural resources, which could transform the economic standing.
Unlike a private business that must account for assets and liabilities, the federal government fails to produce a comprehensive balance sheet, including natural wealth.
The scale of America’s untapped resources is staggering. The Interior Department controls 500 million acres of land, with another 200 million acres managed by the U.S. Forest Service and grasslands programs.
Beyond these surface lands, the government holds mineral rights to 700 million additional acres rich with oil, gas, and critical minerals that form the backbone of modern technology and defense systems.
Even more impressive are the 2.5 billion acres of offshore territory, much of which remains unexplored despite the potential for massive oil and gas reserves.
Although radical environmentalists block access to these resources, America’s competitors like China and Russia aggressively develop their own natural assets.
Burgum’s revelations are critical when concerns about America’s debt burden are mounting.
By properly accounting for these assets on the national balance sheet, America could dramatically improve its perceived creditworthiness and lower interest rates on government borrowing, saving taxpayers billions annually.
Rather than surrendering to manufactured climate hysteria and locking away natural wealth, responsible development of these resources offers a clear path to prosperity, energy dominance, and debt reduction.
