Setting the stage for a sweeping transformation in federal employment, President Donald Trump launched a bold initiative under Schedule F.
The president’s move seeks to drain the swamp by reclassifying 50,000 federal bureaucrats.
Specifically, this game-changing executive order will make it easier to remove employees who obstruct America’s elected leadership or perform poorly.
President Trump’s Office of Personnel Management has published the reclassification order in the Federal Register, targeting federal employees in policy-influencing positions.
Called “Schedule Policy/Career,” the new category transforms these positions into at-will employment while maintaining their career status.
This critical reform will allow supervisors to remove underperforming or obstructionist employees without the bureaucratic red tape that has protected the deep state for decades.
“If these government workers refuse to advance the policy interests of the President, or are engaging in corrupt behavior, they should no longer have a job. This is common sense, and will allow the federal government to finally be ‘run like a business,'” President Trump stated.
The move delivers on the president’s promise to confront the “deep state” career bureaucrats who have wielded enormous power while facing little accountability.
Under current procedures, removing poor performers can take between six months to a year before appeals even begin.
This system has been criticized for allowing corruption to flourish while giving unelected officials the power to undermine presidential policies they personally disagree with.
Federal agencies now have to submit lists of employees for potential reclassification.
The initiative was previously attempted during President Trump’s first term but was quickly canceled by Joe Biden on his first day in office.
Many saw the Democrat’s decision as protecting the bureaucracy at the expense of accountability and control.
Office of Personnel Management Acting Director Chuck Ezell stated:
“Policy-making federal employees have a tremendous amount of influence over our laws and our lives. Such employees must be held to the highest standards of conduct. Americans deserve a government that is both effective and accountable.”
Surveys consistently show that federal employees themselves believe their agencies do not effectively address poor performance.
This sentiment was reflected in the FDIC scandal, where misconduct was tolerated because the removal process was too cumbersome.
Schedule F directly addresses this problem by streamlining the removal of employees who abuse their positions.
The initiative has sparked outrage from government unions and critics. The American Federation of Government Employees has already announced plans to sue the administration.
Schedule F is a key component of the broader effort to restore accountability in government and ensure that the federal bureaucracy serves the American people, rather than itself.
By making it easier to remove those who obstruct policy initiatives or perform poorly, President Trump is fulfilling his promise to make America great again.
Since taking office, the Trump administration has already removed or pressured into buyouts over 132,000 federal workers who were not effectively serving taxpayers.
