(Patriot.Buzz) – Shooting down local election officials’ claims about security, Rep. Tom Tiffany (R-WI) has raised concerns about the integrity of absentee ballots in Madison as thousands of them lack barcodes.
Tiffany voiced his worries on X. He explained that the Madison Clerk’s Office initially said duplicate ballots would have matching barcodes to prevent them from being submitted multiple times, but this might not be the case.
“DEVELOPING. Although the Madison Clerk’s Office claims, ‘The voting system does not allow a ballot with the same barcode to be submitted,’ my office has proof that there is no barcode on the actual ballots,” Tiffany’s post read.
To back his claim, Tiffany posted a photo of a ballot clearly missing a barcode.
This revelation came shortly after Tiffany demanded an “investigation,” given that Madison officials admitted that 2,215 duplicate ballots were distributed across about 10 wards.
He voiced his concern in a letter to city clerk Maribeth Witzel-Behl, stating he was “alarmed” by the mishap.
“Like many Wisconsinites, I was alarmed by recent reports that ‘around 2,000’ duplicate ballots have been sent out by your office,” Tiffany wrote.
He slammed the Clerk’s Office for their brief explanation, which he felt lacked important details.
Tiffany also questioned whether the mistake was a result of “simple incompetence or a deliberate nefarious act.”
Tiffany insists that the issue should not be ignored and has demanded answers.
“This can’t just be swept under the rug,” he said in a statement. “The people responsible for this need to be held accountable.”
